14-year-old girl accidentally shot by police while hiding in dressing room, LAPD confirms

A 14-year-old girl is dead after Los Angeles police say they believe she may have been accidentally hit by a bullet shot Thursday by an officer, as they were encountering a suspect in a shopping mall who police said previously assaulted a different woman at a clothing store. Police said the suspect was also killed.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the girl was found in what appeared to be a dressing room that LAPD Assistant Chief Dominic Cho said could not be seen into. He said on his preliminary inspection of the store, the dressing room looks “like a straight wall of drywall.”

Police also said they did not find a gun in connection to the suspect, however they are still reviewing CCTV and body-worn camera video as the investigation into the deadly shooting continues.

  1. The officers with the rifle in a mall with a lot of people should not be on point. The only reason officers should be using rifles on the job is for armored or barricade suspects. Officer should only be using low loads hollow points and pistols in crowded places. The office that killed this girl was using high load green tip AP. rounds in a 5.56 . That would go thru people and a few walls. That's to dangerous in a crowded place. If anyone in the media reads this start looking at the ammo the officer was using and see if it was within dept. policy.

  2. shoot first. ask questions later. Poor girl, heartbroken family…cops kill another innocent victim. Keep shooting first…derp cops

  3. Amazing journalists asking the same damn questions that were already answered

  4. If the shooter is black and the victim is white, Joy Reid’s lips will remain shut tight.

  5. Just because someone call and say they heard shots don’t mean you get to shoot the person. The guy was walking away anyways. And isle nothing against police and they gave a Big responsibility that’s why they train so hard.

  6. Trigger happy Officer. He was in a hurry to shoot and kill. Unfortunately killed an innocent person. RIP

  7. In the orginal video the 14 year old had a painful death, she was screaming and crying before she lost all her blood and passed out. Forever. You have non lethal, use it. He don't have a gun or knife and he was away from the victim. Use the owchy rounds 1st and maybe she wouldn't died

  8. Inexplicable: (1) Mother does not alert police to her and daughters presence, and have police escort them out of harm's way; (2) Before funeral services, parents obtain Ben Crump's a/k/a Defund/Demonize Polices, services seeking Big Cash Payout.

  9. So is this police officer going to get 110 years like the truck driver, or just 10…. ?! Jeez, the amount of weapons and injections floating around the unwell disasterous environments is obscene.
